Baker's Back!

Cmoney mentioned in the forum this week that ShockTillYouDrop.com was naming Rick Baker as the special effects artist on the new Wolf Man movie. We were all hopeful but healthily skeptical until Darkwolf Avenged posted the above pic which confirms it. This project is just sounding better and better.

In other news, Darrenkamp has reviewed Skinwalkers and Kavik has reviewed Bloodz vs Wolvez. And I've been too lazy to review anything. Feel bad now.

Review: The Undying Monster (1942)

A review of another obscure werewolf B-movie from the good ol' days. Also, Matt and Nat from YourGeekNews.com have submitted the first review of Skinwalkers.

Review: "Discworld Noir" (1999)

Another computer game review for the Other Media section. I'll get back to reviewing movies soon, I promise.

Marcus has recommended Werewolf: The Forsaken, and Andrew has reviewed Frankenstein and Me.

Review: "The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - Bloodmoon" (2003)

I've expanded my initial comments into more of a proper
review of this game, along with lots of screenshots. I felt it deserved it. You'll find it all in the Other Media section.

Also, Elvisscott has recommended Gary Brandner's The Howling (1977), Zeav Keela has reviewed Big Bad Wolf and Andrew has reviewed Dracula (1993).

Review: Halloweentown (1998)

A review of the first in a popular series of Disney movies, a couple of which feature werewolves.

I've also added a couple of things to the Other Media section; the Werewolf : The Forsaken roleplaying books series and Lionhead's The Movies computer game.

Review: Return of the Vampire (1944)

The vampire returns, and this time it's personal. Eek! Have a review.

Skinwalkers opens today in the US, so check that one out. Also we finally have word about the British production Wild Country, which comes to DVD in October. You can pre-order it from amazon.co.uk

New User Reviews/Recommendations

Silly me. I keep forgetting to update this blog with the latest new submissions to the website, so here are all the recent ones I've missed:

Darrenkamp has reviewed Bad Moon and recommended the book Santa Claws.

KeyWolf has recommended the books Wagner the Werewolf and Cycle of the Werewolf.

Darkwolf Avenged has recommended the books Saint Peter's Wolf and Animals, and has also reviewed The Beast of the Bray Road.

Undertaker and Marcus have reviewed Big Bad Wolf.

Andrew has reviewed Silver Bullet and Wallace and Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

Hopefully I didn't miss any.

Other Media

Yet another new feature for the website. Pretty soon you won't need to go anywhere else, you know. I'll open a 'groceries' section. Need some beer? Don't go to the fridge, I'll have it airmailed to you. Woo!

Ahem. Anyway, the new Other Media section will contain books, games and so on that have been recommended visitors. So go recommend something.

Review: Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005)

This movie is one of the main reasons I wanted to incorporate a "See Also" section in the first place, so here's a review.

Review: The Night Has Eyes (1942) + New Database Section

A review of a borderline werewolf movie starring James Mason. You won't find it in the main movie database though, but in the brand new See Also section, a place for non-werewolf movies that genre fans might be interested in.

Also coming soon is an Other Media section for werewolf books, comics, games etc.

Skinwalkers Preview

Mark your calendars, James Isaac's Skinwalkers hits theaters this Friday. I recieved the following preview from Nat at YourGeekNews.com, who also have a very cool video preview on their site:

Fantastic man-in-suit creature effects and an epic storyline meet average direction in what is a surprisingly successful attempt at the elusive Werewolf genre. Director Jim Isaacs doesn't have much experience in the role, but he still manages to capture the brilliance of Creature Effects Expert Stan Winston's many, many Werewolves. The cast, from Jason Behr and Rhona Mitra to Sarah Carter and Elias Koteas, do a great job; with the exception of the first scene, the acting is all top-notch for a blatant genre pic.

We managed to catch a preview, and as a result we have a sweet little 10-minute preview with scenes from Skinwalkers and interviews with the cast and crew, and an awesome look at the creature effects process, over at my movie preview and review site: YourGeekNews.com

Enjoy!

Trick 'r Treat (2007)

Beast of the East (2009)
Nightwolf TV Show (????)

Lots of exciting prospects coming up over the next couple of years. Yep.

Werewolf-Movies.com needs YOU!

Caught a good lycanthropic thriller lately? Tired of hearing me trash all your favourite werewolf movies? Well, I've just added a new feature to the site that allows you to submit your own review for any movie in the database. It can be pretty much as long or as short as you like. Just go here.

You'll also get your own reviewer page, and any further reviews you submit will all be listed on there for visitors to mull over. It'd be especially helpful if you happen to have seen any movies that I haven't got round to reviewing yet.

Review: The Howling V (1989)

I'm having a 'Howling' marathon! After this review just one more until I have a full deck.

Review: The Howling III (1987)

Yes, I'm still labouring my way through the 'Howling' saga. Am I brave or what? This review is of the third, extremely odd, installment.

Review: Bloodz vs Wolvez (2006)

Word. Have yet another review.

Review: Samson vs the Vampire Women (1962)

I'm being way too nice to you people lately. Yet another review, this time of my very first Santo/Samson movie. There quite a few of these in the database, as apparently Mexican wrestlers have to deal with werewolves a lot.

Review: Legend of the Werewolf (1975)

A review of a classic werewolf movie that I finally got around to. One of the few noteable werewolf movies of the seventies, in fact. It's about time somebody got their act together and put this out on DVD. Tut tut.

I also tidied up the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban page and added some better screencaps. It deserves it.

Review: The Howling II (1985)

Okay, I've put this off for long enough. It's time for me to fearlessly embark on the unenviable task of reviewing all of the remaining Howling movies, starting with this review of the first sequel. I will attempt to soldier on further ...

New Server! + Review : Goosebumps (1996)

Finally got around to moving to a new server in order to have direct hosting on the Werewolf-Movies.com domain. No more of this 'http://noel.simianzombie.com' nonsense.

To celebrate the new server, have a review of the "Werewolf of Fever Swamp" episode of Goosebumps. A fun episode of a fun show.

Review: Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? (1970)

Another quick review of an animated werewolf episode. There are so many of these things, literally dozens of cartoon episodes I haven't added to the database. But I think you'll agree that this one is pretty compulsory.

Review: Spider-Man Unlimited (2001)

A brief review of the "Ill-Met By Moonlight" episode of this show, which features the character 'Man-Wolf' from the comics. Will this character ever appear wolfed-out in a Spider-Man movie? I sure hope so.

Review: Totally Awesome (2006)

It's not. But here's a review anyway.

Tuesday, 17 July 2007

Review: Big Bad Wolf (2007)

Go here to check out my review of "Big Bad Wolf". For the most part I enjoyed it, though it wasn't as good as it initially sounded. These things rarely are, I guess ... Well worth a watch, though.

Database complete!

Sorry, that was just my victory howl. I've just finished transfering all of the TV shows from the old website into the new database, so now both the movie and TV databases are all up and running. Woo-hoo!

I guess it's time to take some inventory.

257 movies, 92 of which have been reviewed.
57 TV shows, with exactly 100 individual episode reviews.
22 upcoming movies.

The "Articles" page is also now finished. I feel like I should celebrate with a steak. Maybe some lamb ...

"Werewolf" Episode Guide

I've just finished uploading the episode guide for Frank Lupo's Werewolf. What a frickin' great show. Must watch it again one of these days. Apparently it's currently airing Wednesday nights on the "Chiller" cable channel. This is the first time it's been aired on television since it's initial run in 1987-88. For everyone who keeps e-mailing me about getting hold of a copy, check out TVboxset.com. Or, y'know, learn how to use a search engine.

I forgot to mention in the last post that the Sci-Fi Channel has just started re-airing Wolf Lake. They also periodically air She-Wolf of London. I mean really, what's not to love about the Sci-Fi Channel?

Blog off!

I thought it would be fun to stick a blog on here for website updates and such. This way people can directly comment on updates if they feel the urge. It all seems to work okay. So, umm, updates. Yeah.

The new website is almost complete, I just need to finish adding stuff to the TV database. The Wolf Lake and She-Wolf of London episode guides are up. The latter has always been one of the most popular pages on this site, despite the fact that it's not actually complete. Must get round to it soon. Lazy me.

Who else can't wait for the new Wolf Man movie?
